WATTS Program

WATTS is a program conducted by congregations in Frederick and Clarke Counties and Winchester to provide warm, safe shelter and nourishment to homeless members of our community during the winter months. WATTS has been very successful. Since its inception, WATTS has grown from eight to 18 host congregations, which significantly increases support to the most vulnerable members of our local homeless community.

2016 Christ Church Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS) Host Week

Christ Church hosted WATTS from Jan. 25 to Feb. 1, 2016. During this week, we opened our Parish Hall to house and feed local homeless adults from 7 pm to 7 am daily. This was our seventh year of hosting WATTS and our past success in this ministry is attributable to the very generous support and donations from Christ Church parishioners.Monetary donations can be deposited in the Sunday collection or sent to the Christ Church Office at 114 W. Boscawen St., Winchester, VA 22601. If sending a check, please make it payable to Christ Church and note either WATTS or Thermal Ministries on the check.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON HOMELESS THERMAL MINISTRY

Sunday afternoon is the only time of the week that thermal shelter is not available for the Winchester Homeless Community. To fill this void, the Christ Church Men’s Group again partnered with Congregational Community Action Project (CCAP) to use the CCAP Facility at 112 South Kent Street in Winchester as a Sunday afternoon thermal shelter. We hosted homeless guests at CCAP for Sunday afternoons from January 10th to March 6th, 2016.  There were two shifts: 1:00 to 4:00 pm and 3:30 to 6:30 pm with two or more volunteers for each shift. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older. Volunteer opportunities are open to all Christ Church congregants and friends who meet the age criteria. If you wish to volunteer to support this very worthy ministry, please e-mail or call Pat Kofalt patkofalt@gmail.com 540-722-0429 or Chris Ferguson chrisferguson_41@msn.com 540-722-0429.
