Journey to Adulthood - Sunday 9:30-10:15am

For young people in grades 6-12, Christ Church offers the Journey to Adulthood(J2A) program. It uses Bible study, prayer, rites of passage, sacramental preparation, outreach, pilgrimage, mission as well as both fun and serious activities to underscore the core principles that manhood and womanhood are free gifts from God and that adulthood must be earned. The curriculum uses scripture lessons to initiate discussion in the various groups about real issues facing young people today about what it means to be a Christian in a secular society. Lessons are divided into 4 major areas---Self, Society, Spirituality, and Sexuality.

Rite 13 -

Rite 13 is the first section of the Journey to Adulthood program for young people at Christ Church. During these two years, young people explore their creative gifts and abilities while building a strong faith community of peers. The Celebration of Manhood and Womanhood is celebrated near a young person's 13th birthday. This rite is the congregations' recognition of the unique qualities of its young people. After two years the Rite 13 group becomes the J2A group.

J2A -

J2A is the second section of the Journey to Adulthood program, and the core of the program. Following Rite 13, young people in J2A begin to learn and practice six basic skills of adulthood: active listening, assertion, negotiation, reserach and information management, partnership and leadership. At the end of the second year of J2A these young people explore the mystery of their faith heritage by designing and going on a Holy Pilgrimage. After this the group moves on to YAC.

YAC -

After their pilgrimage, the J2A group becomes YAC (Young Adults in Church). During their final years in the program, young people take ownership of their place in the church as young adults by exploring different church ministries and leadership opportunities. The group meets weekly, and leaders and youth alike lead discussions on faith, belief, and the church.

Youth Group - Sundays 6:00-7:30 pm, Tilford Room (Parish Hall)

To further engage aspects of spirituality, sexuality, self, and society, youth in grades 6-12 gather for community service, worship, fellowship, and study.
