HIGHLIGHTS OF UPCOMING EVENTS IN THE PARISH

SUNDAY, SEPT 12, ANNUAL SUNDAY SCHOOL/CHOIRS KICK-OFF . We will NOT be going to the park for lunch. We will stay at the church and have a cookout in the courtyard, and offer an OPEN HOUSE FOR THE COMMUNITY. This is to emphasize welcoming newcomers so they can see the parish, the Sunday School classrooms and time for greeting. It is also a chance for people to catch up after the summer. The open house is also an ideal time for a mini-ministry type fair.

If you would like a table, or share with someone, please let Bill Jarvis know by Wednesday Sept 8.

As for help needed for the OPEN HOUSE, check with Mary Margaret Applin or Mary Lauer.

IF YOU ARE HEALTHY ENOUGH FOR A 70 FT. CLIMB UP 6 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS PLEASE SIGN UP AT THE PROPERTIES TABLE FOR ONE OF THE TOUR SLOTS & MEET AT THE TABLE AT THE ALLOTTED TIME FOR YOUR TOUR.


Summer and Vacation Bible School are great,
but we are set to switch gears on September 12th. Whether your family contains a 2½ year old, a senior in high school, or just adults ready for the stimulation of adult forum, our offerings in Christian formation are set to begin for 2010-11.
Children and youth can register using this form. You may e-mail to the office, drop the form in the Tilford Room mailbox located on the piano, or complete one on September 12th. For children and youth our classes are divided into ages 2½ & 3, preschool ages 4- 5, Kindergarten - grade 1, grades 2 - 3, grades 4 - 5, Rite 13 I (grade 6), Rite 13 II (grades 7 - 8), Journey to Adulthood (grades 9 - 10) and Young Adults in the Church (grades 11-12). Preschool, primary, and elementary grades will be using the All Things New curriculum while youth classes will use the appropriate level of the Journey to Adulthood program.

Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS) celebration,
September 14th at First Presbyterian

On Sunday, September 19th, the Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS) will host a Grace & Gratitude celebration from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 116 South Loudoun Street in Winchester. The celebration will recognize all who supported WATTS during this past season, hear testimony of WATTS’ positive impact from some of the WATTS’ Guests, apprise Winchester City and Frederick County Community Leaders of WATTS’ contributions to the community and identify WATTS’ goals for the upcoming Season. We hope that you will join us to say thanks to those who helped and to learn more for those who want to get involved.

FOOD CARD DONATIONS: Please consider donating food cards. Due to increased demand throughout the community we welcome more donations of $10 food cards from any of the local grocery stores. Please place in the offering plate or drop off at the office.

Rector's Discretionary Fund: Donations to the rector’s discretionary fund help the clergy provide assistance for rent, utilities, gasoline and emergencies to the working poor , unemployed and homeless in our community.

THROUGH CREATIVITY

HATS FOR HEAD START Each year members of our congregation and friends of Christ Church have been knitting hats for Winchester area children in the Head Start program. For many of these children, this is the only warm hat they have for the winter. Right now enrollment for the program is 162 children. If you would like to make a child’s life a little warmer and make a knit hat or two Lucia Thomas can provide you the yarn and patterns for junior size hats for 4 and 5 year olds. Women’s Bible Study will restart on Tuesday September 7, 10:30am in the Smith Building conference room. There will also be an evening study in the parlors on the first & third Tuesdays at 7pm starting Sept 7. Topic: Old Testament Stories from the Other Side. Please contact Ann if you plan to attend so that books may be ordered.

Lectionary Bible Study: The 10:30 am Lectionary Bible Study starts up again on Wednesday, September 15. Come and join the clergy in the Smith Building Conference Room (second floor) to look at the readings for the upcoming Sunday’s services.

KNIT UNTO OTHERS: The Christ Curch Prayer Shawl ministry will meet the first Monday (7-8:30pm) & Third Tuesday (2-3:30pm) each month in the parlors. Please bring supplies, patterns to share and enjoy the felllowship of this important new ministry.
